Learn how to draw a traditional Catrina or Calaca, applying elements of art such as symmetry, textures and geometrical shapes to personalize your own Catrina.
During this art tutorial, discuss where Día de Muertos comes from and how it is celebrated. Talk about the artwork of Guadalupe Posadas, the famous Mexican newspaper cartoonist from the ’30s and the creator of the popular Catrina character.
Los participantes seran guiados paso a paso, como dijbujar una tradicional ‘Catrina o Calaca, aplicando los Elementos de Arte como: simetria, color, texturas y formas geométricas para personalizar tu propia Catrina.
Durante este tutorial de arte, discutiremos de donde viene el Día de Muertos y como es celebrado. Hablaremos del trabajo de Guadalupe Posadas, el famoso cartonista mexicano de los años 30’s, el fué el creador de la famosa Catrina.
Supplies Needed
· 1 sheet of 8x10 white cardstock
· 1 sheet of 11x14 black construction paper
· 1 plastic cap (from milk or juice) to trace circles
· Set of markers, or gel pens, or color pencils
· Black marker or black sharpie
· Glue stick
· White color pencil
