STEM Saturday: 'Designing' Microplastic Filters for Washing Machines

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Sammamish

Description

What are microplastics? How do they affect our environment? And what are some small things we can do to clean them up?

In this teen-led workshop, learn all about microplastics and ways that scientists are working to remove them from the environment--including in your very own washing machine! Then, using household materials, participants will work to 'design' a microplastics filter.

*Note: Since microplastics are too small to see with the naked eye, the filters created in this workshop are for illustrative and exploratory purposes only--not functional ones. They are not intended for actual use in a washing machine.*

Part of the STEM Saturdays Spring Series, where teen presenters lead fun and informative workshops on scientific topics. Occurs twice per month from March to April.
