As the much-anticipated prequel to multi-award-winning global hit "Prime Suspect", this crime drama goes back to Hackney, London in 1973.Jane Tennison, an ambitious, 22-year old probationary officer, starts out as a police constable in a…

If you watched Prime Suspect and wondered where Jane Tennison got her start, this movie tells the story. Not only did Jane have brains and beauty but also a stoic steely character.

I liked this as a stand alone, not to be compared to the much more well-known Prime Suspect that followed. Interesting as a look back at women just getting started in the police force, battling inequality. Tennison is sharp and driven,…

For anyone who has seen the original Prime Suspect series this is an interesting take on Jane Tennison’s career launch, with hints of future success as well as the personal problems that plagued her. It compares very favourably with…

Really poor. Didn’t even finish watching the first episode. Tennison is just a little wee mouse. The plot line was full of these dreary London gangsters. All her interactions with her family are clichéd, but they also all seem sedated. The…

Helen mirren's Tennison with a lobotomy.

We were put off watching this mainly because we didn’t like the intrusive music, found it distracting and annoying. I also tried to see some vague resemblance to Helen Mirron, but it just wasn’t there.

This was a good series. I liked the fact that for me, there were lots of new faces. Don't watch this if you want something uplifting and happy. It did have one thing that I am really tired of seeing and that is the supervisor/sub-ordinate…

Found this plot and characters somewhat entertaining however I have no way to gage realism. My infrequent visits on work and pleasure to the UK, didn't expose me to police, although I recognized some of the class arrogance. Racial…

This prequel is a must-see for fans of Helen Mirren/Prime Suspect series, detailing how the detective got her start as a lowly and dedicated probationer surmounting sexism and intense crime scenes in a 1970s London precinct. Well-produced…

Really enjoyed this series and the different twists added to it. We made a point of not comparing to the original series and were not disappointed. Martini stands very well in the shoes of WPC. We are looking forward to more in this serie.

I doubt that any actress can do a credible job of demonstrating and convincing us that this is how Helen Mirren started out as a young female British constable. The story itself is very, very gritty and has no uplifting moments. No one…

Felt like they were trying to do a 70s version of Life on Mars with regard to setting. Life on Mars was great - this one had terrible storyline and acting. Great music selection but too loud so lyrics interfered.

Enjoyable series on the way back machine. Agree with another reviewer about the loudness of the music although I enjoyed the tunes since I lived through that era. Looking forward to the following set of DVDs.

Not really up to Prime Suspect quality, but engaging nonetheless. Newcomer Stefani Martini does well with the unenviable task of stepping into the role Helen Mirren created. Veterans Alun Armstrong and Ruth Sheen are superb as the…

I loved the 70s rock tunes as reinforcement to the period
