A "Downtown Abby" type show that grows more interesting with each episode. Set in Australia just after WWII, the matriarch of one of the riches families is slowing loosing her iron-fisted grasp on her children and grandchildren. Her long absent daughter--banished for her liberal attitudes among other things, may be coming back at a most inconvenient time. Her widowed son is being pursued by his sister-in-law who cannot be as evil as she seems, be he is more interested in the new woman in town who is a survivor of Nazi death camps.

Beautifully shot, period costumes, exceptionally good acting. I highly recommend this series.

Oh my god, what a sleeper! Molasses runs faster than this thing. 590 minutes of TV that feels like 10,000 minutes!

Well acted, good plots and sub-plots. My husband reluctantly watched it with me and loved it. The period music, cars and fashions really add to the story. Lots of conflict created by the clash of class, gender identity, religion, ethnicity. My only quibble is that the Machiavellian Aunt Reggie is over-acted.

Just complete season one. Interesting story line(s) with multiple characters dealing with a multitude of issues. The morays of the 1950's are clearly present, far different from todays. The cast does a commendable job and the settings are fantastic rather than so many of these series where there is endless dialogue shot in a single room. I highly recommend it.

A 50's period drama not without humor and much conundrum! Characters are well developed. Each character has endearing qualities or strengths to empathize with...even the utterly nasty.
