This is a collection of short stories published from the 1970s to the 1990s, chosen by Gardam herself. Most are wonderful, funny and insightful.

Discovered Jane Gardam in my 20s, beginning with Crusoe's Daughter, and have since recommended her to serious readers as a wonderfully insightful and witty author. No one is ever malevolent in her stories, they're simply needing more love. She's a quiet treasure.

A big collection of short stories by one of the UK's best writers. I loved Gardam's "Old Filth" trilogy, and there are many stories here up to that high standard of writing.
