"A stunning new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The House at Tyneford London, 1958. It's the eve of the sexual revolution, but in Juliet Montagues conservative Jewish community where only men can divorce women, she finds herself a living widow, invisible. Ever since her husband disappeared seven years ago, Juliet has been a hardworking single mother of two and unnaturally practical. But on her thirtieth birthday, that's all about to change. A wealthy young artist asks to paint her portrait, and Juliet, moved by the powerful desire to be seen, enters into the burgeoning art world of 1960s London, which will bring her fame, fortune, and a life-long love affair"-- Provided by publisher.

Definitely think I found my new favourite book.

A good read about women emerging from domesticity and daring to be different, without going overboard. I enjoyed the parallel with the author's relative. Lots of things to think about going on in the background while plot moves forward keeps the reader's interest.
Definitely going to read more of her work!

The characters were vivid and unique. An extraordinary woman whose inability to fit in to her defined society caused her both grief and elation throughout her lifetime. Not a tearjerker but rather a read that would resonate with anyone who is always just a little on the outside and instead of trying to fit in a bubble wants to look for something a bit bigger.

The book was rather flat. Just when the plot got exacting it went flat again. It was okay, but why read okay when there are so many great books.
