Opinion

From Library Staff

Trained by the government as a spy and assassin, Evan Smoak dedicates himself to helping the truly desperate. But something he's down has drawn the attention of an equally skilled, equally shadowy opponent, and now Evan must use his combo of high-tech tools and esoteric skills to defend himself.

To his neighbors Evan Smoak is unremarkable. They don't know he is The Nowhere Man, a trained assassin who helps the innocent.

I had to persevere due to the amount of uninteresting and superfluous detail. Mid-way through. it became truly interesting.

Never heard of the TV show but I gave the book an average rating. The ending was too predictable!

I really enjoyed this book. Plenty of action, suspense and twists. Evan's character is fully detailed - going back to his being raised by Jack, his handler, to present day events. The ending was a surprise and this will most likely be part of the next "Nowhere Man" series. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next one.

"The hard part isn't turning you into a killer, the hard part is keeping you human." This is why Evan Smoak is likable - he has a heart. Liked Evan, liked the relationship between him and his handler, liked that his handler kept him human. Didn't like how detailed and complicated the fight scenes were - couldn't picture what was actually happening, so just tried to keep track of his injuries. Liked the ending leading into the next book.

Kind of cartoonish and formulaic [how do these crime fighters always get to be soooo rich???] and predictable but still somewhat entertaining.

.·:*¨¨*:·..Good but not Great..·:*¨¨*:·.
James Bond but with greater technology and its gimmicks. The name dropping of the tools of war gets a little tiresome, especially at the beginning. Think of watching a movie with constant and distracting product endorsements. Feels like the author is setting up Evan as the hero in a new series.

The only thing Orphan X has in common with the Orphan Black tv show is part of its name. Reviewers should read the book before leaving a comment.

Really excellent thriller. It was totally engrossing. This would be a good choice for Jack Reacher fans.
