I did not care for the book. In the era of #MeToo, I found her acceptance of Tommy's temper and physical aggressiveness with her disconcerting. I would not want to be treated that way. I also thought their drinking indicated there was a substance abuse problem.

I found this book and its flawed characters so incredibly charming.
Stacey struggles to balance her new role as a Hollywood screenwriter with being the proper suburban mom and Midwestern widow, all while figuring out the tumultuous relationship that’s developing between her and the movie’s leading man. "Monsters" is full of local references that Omaha readers will pick up on. I had a hard time putting this book down.

Maybe I like darker, tormented stories, or maybe it was just written well, but I devoured this book.

I gave this a solid three stars because I really wanted to know what happened next. The relationship, based on booze and with violence just under the surface, was kind of cringe-worthy. I wouldn't want my daughter or son in this relationship. Still, I grew fond of Tommy and found myself rooting for him in the end. Could we trust the narrator? Tommy's commentary suggested not, but I wasn't sure. Still, I'd give this author another try.
