Anton and Vlad are a handsome, happy couple living in modern-day Russia, peacefully making a life for themselves in the comfortable privacy of their Moscow apartment. But everything is about to change. Driving home after taking a wrong turn, the young couple confronts what they believe is a vicious gay bashing. For Anton, the burden of what they may have witnessed outweighs Vlad's fear of probing too deeply into the incident. Anton talks his skeptical lover into launching their own amateur investigation into the hate crime, inevitably leading to unexpected and risky consequences.

This Russian film about violence toward gays in modern-day Russia will leave you angry and frustrated at the end. The screenwriter and director want to motivate ordinary people to stand up against this violence. It has a tragic ending, with just a glimmer of hope that , " that which does not kill us, makes us stronger." The film seems to be missing a necessary epilogue and so I gave it a low rating.

V. Interesting take on gays in Russia today. Given the dangers that gays face there under Putin's rule it is inspiring that these Russian actors and filmmakers are so brave to criticize the gay bashers. neo- Nazis, corrupt officials and complacent citizens: some of whom feel they have a complete license to kill, or at least ignore what is happening. Recommended.
