Melina Markowitz, is actually a Messenger - a go-between for all those supernatural creatures who are scooting around Sacramento unbeknownst to the rest of us. Rendahl creates a wildly creative alternative world, introduced by Melina's wisecracking, sardonic voice: "Since I was three years old, dead people have stopped by to have chats with me. " There are two men in Melina's life, a gorgeous (vampire) doctor, and an equally gorgeous (human) cop. When some bad ninjas steal one of Melina's messages, shes honor-bound to get it back, even when the surfer-dude cop, Ted Goodnight, keeps interfering (to say nothing of the exertions of the delicious Dr. Bledsoe).

Don't lure the bad guy because WE say it's NOT allowed.

I loved the whole multi-cultural take on things that go bump in the night! It's not the typical Anglo-Saxon paranormal, though vamps and weres are there, too! Great plot and story line, characters were good, situation facing them a great mix of mythical and normal.

Melina is, once again, facing SNAFU. As a Messenger, the communication method of choice between the Others, she's gotta keep on her toes, because while Messengers aren't supposed to be harmed, they're a reason why people say "don't kill the messenger". But when the situation starts to impact those closest to her, Melina realizes she's gotta stop being "just the Messenger" and start getting involved before more people get hurt.
