I felt the "Christian" side of the debate was weak and predictable. As ever, I was excited to read more Hitchens but felt that his "opponent" was more caught up in trying to convert another "lost sheep" and missed the point of the book. Ah well. Another great read if only for the Hitchens portions!

Hitchens' rationality overwhelms the medieval Christian apologist Douglas Wilson in this overlong debate. Upon reading the opening sentence by Wilson ("God gave us fingernails because he knew we would need to pick up dimes", or some such fatuous drivel) one realizes that the "yea" side will not be mounting more than a feeble, self-contradictory, opaque and ultimately irrational "argument". Wilson's entire argument boils down to a challenge to Hitchens to demonstrate how, without the guidance of the divine, he can assert that anything is good or not. This argument is absurd and self-defeating because what is alleged to be divine was entirely man-made. In other words, what Wilson asserts that Hitchens cannot do what he himself does.

Appears to be the edited transcript of a TV debate, so you either choose to believe or not, no room fro agnostics that hope there is no hell
