Claudia Bishop’s perfect life fell apart when the aftermath of a brutal assault left her with a crumbling marriage, a newborn daughter, and a constant sense of anxiety about the world around her. Looking for a fresh start and material for her growing blog, Claudia takes on a home-restoration project in a dilapidated old house—one that hides an ugly history and some long buried secrets. The defining moment of Zoey Drake's childhood was the horrific home invasion murder of her parents. Years later, she has embraced the rage that fuels her. Training in martial arts has made her strong enough to face the demons from her past—and from within. Strangers to each other and walking very different paths, these two women are on a collision course when Zoey’s past nightmare and Claudia’s dreams of the future converge in the very same house. As Zoey seeks justice, and Claudia seeks peace, both must confront the monsters at the door that are the most frightening of all.

I never know quite where I am going when I start reading one of Lisa Unger's books, but I'm delighted to go along for the ride with her. I have read everything the library has by this author, and I am always thoroughly intrigued and entertained by her stories. If you like mysteries with a twist, do try one of her novels, they are unique and gripping. A word of warning, though, they are extremely hard to put down. I read all day Sunday and well past my bedtime yesterday to finish the story!

Once again Unger creates a thriller which you can not put down. There are two separate parallel stories of two strong women conquering the fears of previous life experiences which finally converge in an explosive conclusion. Not all aspects of their stories are apparent and are uncovered and revealed in their own time. Their paths to redemption and freedom from their pasts are memorable and inspiring. One of her best books. Looking forward to her next adventure.
