With a sharp tongue and an unruly temper, Sage Fowler is not what they’d call a proper lady—which is perfectly fine with her. Deemed unfit for a suitable marriage, Sage is apprenticed to a matchmaker and tasked with wrangling other young ladies to be married off for political alliances. She spies on the girls—and on the soldiers escorting them. As the girls' military escort senses a political uprising, Sage is recruited by a handsome soldier to infiltrate the enemy ranks. The more she discovers as a spy, the less certain she becomes about whom to trust—and Sage becomes caught in a dangerous balancing act that will determine the fate of her kingdom. With secret identities and a tempestuous romance, Erin Beaty's The Traitor’s Kiss is full of intrigue, espionage, and lies.

The first half was not my favorite. But BOY OH BOY did the second half make it worth it!!!!! ACTION!!! ROMANCE!!!!! FEELINGS!!!! WHOO. It took me a while to connect with the characters, but when I did, all bets were off. Can't wait to read the next one.

Eh. That's about how I feel about this book. At first I was actually really excited. A book about a girl who apprentices with a matchmaker, set in a fantasy world where almost all couples are matched? That sounds pretty awesome. But honestly, the further I got into the book, the more I noticed myself skimming through sections that just felt extremely slow and boring, to get to the good parts. This is another one of those romantic fantasy books focused more on the romance and drama, and less on action. That being said, the romance in the book was quite enjoyable and I did love Sage, the main character. She has a lot of spunk and is very smart. If you like slower paced books, you'd probably really enjoy this book. Personally, I was just hoping for a little less dialogue, and a little more action.

I loved and enjoyed reading this book so much. If you like fantasy books this is definitely a book you should pick up.

Interesting book, but one thing that was particularly confusing was how the author called the characters by different names. I was able to easily read and understand the book, but I think I could have been a lot more clarifying if each character was called by just one thing.

There’s nothing particularly new about this book, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t make for entertaining reading. It’s full of lots of familiar elements of teen fantasy – a girl who dreams of more than marriage, a romance with a soldier, spying, political maneuverings – and yet they’re all done in entertaining enough fashion that I was never bored. There was one reveal late in the book that I thought was, while not entirely unpredictable, at least cleverly handled with some careful writing throughout, and I finished this totally content. Basically: if you like YA fantasy, I expect you’d like this. And, of course, it’s the first in a series, so there’s more to come.
