Caitlin Hendrix, a detective with San Francisco's Narcotics Task Force, visits a crime scene in an Alameda County cornfield-a brutal double murder. The killer pounded nails into the chests of the two victims, forming the symbol for mercury, the hallmark of the notorious serial killer known as the Prophet who struck the Bay Area during the 1990s, then disappeared. The Prophet is no stranger to Caitlin: her father, Mack Hendrix, was the lead detective on the original case, which left him an emotional wreck and tore his family apart.

I am going to come back to this book later, I just couldn't stay focused.

I am so happy that this is the first book in a new Meg Gardiner series! This genre is a departure from what I usually read, and I already cannot wait for the next book. Her characters are believable, her settings send chills down the reader's spine, and the quickly moving events don't allow you to see what is around the next curve. The cliffhanger at the end is totally unexpected, making it even more fun. I highly recommend this read.

I have heard many great things about this author, and as this was my first Meg Gardiner book, I was definitely not disappointed! Unsub was intense and frightening. The vivid descriptions made this novel beyond terrifying. It is so well-written that I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. The book was detailed, yet it got to the point and exceeded my expectations.

This is THE BEST book I have read by Meg Gardiner. Past readings included some books I really enjoyed and some not so much. I definitely recommend this book as it is vastly entertaining, well written and fast paced. Beware: it is nearly impossible to put down. I devoured it in one day, staying up way past my senior lady's bedtime!

This is a good book. It was entertaining, very readable, and held your interest throughout the novel. The Author's characters were well developed, descriptive and interesting I could actually see the characters in my mind. The book starts in present day but the author brought the past forward through the characters thought and actions. You know that the author really put thought and imagination into writing of this book. Excellent book!! Well done.
