The Body SpeaksStreaming Video - 1975
In this program, Ryszard Cieslak, the leading actor in Jerzy Grotowski's Polish Laboratory Theater, demonstrates body exercises used by the avant garde company. Cieslak also discusses his approach with theater critic Margaret Croyden. The exercises - derived from hatha yoga - are meant to train isolation of different body parts and muscle groups, to achieve maximum control over the body as an instrument of communication, and for the sake of going beyond ones personal limitations. The program contains older film in which a much younger Cieslak is seen working with students.
