I really enjoyed this first book in the Vatta's War series by Elizabeth Moon. I don't typically read a lot of space sci-fi. I tend to get bogged down with weird names and strange planets but this story was very easy to follow along with. I've already picked up and read the second book in the series, "Marque and Reprisal," and also really enjoyed it. I highly recommend if you're new to space sci-fi/space operas and want a fun, easy series to read.
