A unique system for jump-starting artistic creativity, encouraging experimentation and growth, and increasing sales for artists of all levels, from novices to professionals. Too many artists find themselves in a frustrating rut: unable to sell paintings hanging in galleries, bogged down by projects they can't finish or abandon, and using any excuse to avoid working in the studio. Author Carol Marine was herself suffering from painter's block--until she discovered "daily painting." The idea is simple: do art (usually small) often (how often is up to the individual) and, if you desire, post it and sell it online. Today Marine is among the best and most celebrated daily painters, and the curator of the popular online gallery dailypaintworks. com. In her debut, Daily Painting, Marine reveals the tips and tricks that helped her and other daily painters pick up the paintbrush and start creating beautiful, bountiful, marketable work. Love her style and the persistent focus on daily practice. This is a beautiful book. Check out her daily painting web page for more inspiration. This book is more about setting yourself up to succeed as a painter/artist than painting techniques or instruction.

This book is for intermediate painters; its not a teaching book. There are a few summary step by step descriptions, but in general, technique is in text and not in illustrated stages of painting. You have to try the examples. Unfortunately, the examples are the ubiquitous still-lifes of fruit, flowers, dishes, etc. As a beginner, I find them too complicated for me to attempt, and trying to paint them, even almost daily, would likely bore me.
The book itself suggests photographing and selling your paintings on a website, and so this was likely its original goal, but the results are interesting.

Carol Marine is obviously an excellent teacher of painting. A book worth looking at. Inspiring.
