Scott wrote in multiple Scottish dialects. The reader, Antony Ferguson, does this well as we explore the wondrous characters from different classes of society. I especially enjoyed Caleb, the wily servant maneuvering as best he can for his old House (family where he has been employed for his lifetime). The story was used in an opera by Donizetti, so you know many of the characters will suffer while unlike tragedy, never seem to have their minds change or learn much (hmm, does that sound like someone with executive power?)
