This book is “fair and balanced” in the sense that it counters the unfair and heavily weighted case that the liars make. I expected exposure of the wing-nut propaganda and the book delivers it. His assertions gain validity from Team Franken, his group of high-achieving Harvard researchers, who found the truth and kept him honest. What I didn’t expect was the laugh-out-loud gags or the poignant explanations of serious matters. Franken makes the case for his in-your-face approach in the final chapter, “What is a Lie?” His “hope is that, if we keep calling them on their calculated dishonesty, their dishonesty will lose its effectiveness.” We might hope so, but those same folks are still spewing the same stuff 15 years later. I guess there’s a ditto-head born every minute.
