This movie was pretty weak- I'm not going to enjoy a movie because it is tangentially related to certain political causes- No, the movie itself has to stand on it's own, which this film doesn't- it's hackneyed and cliched with some poor acting.

The critic's opinion, shown, is not about this movie.
Once the movie was over, I had to go back and watch a pivotal scene again.
The pace of the movie is fairly slow, until the reveal of what happened. Pretty much how I expect an investigation like this is really paced. I liked it.

Beautiful film, I enjoyed this movie. Superb acting, and story. Enjoyed the way the personal relationship between the hero and his bitter ex wife did not magically resolve, but continued. She seemed to blame him for something that was out of his control, but she was just as responsible.

Beautiful scenery, good acting, interesting and timely story about the value of Native Americans, women in particular. If you have been following the unexplained--an UN-investigated-- deaths of First Nations teens in Canada or the "Me Too" campaign in the US this will be of great interest to you. If you oppose the US government allowing Big Oil to steal land and oil from reservations, this will interest you. If you are interested in the issue of "forced poverty" by our government, this will be of interest to you. GOOD film, the politics are just a strong current.

Retribution provides for a sharply closure focused mechanism to purge society of the nauseating behavior of vial scum, obviating the need to engage the encumbering disciples of procedural correctness residing in remote (physically and mentally) judicial citadels. Wind River portrays such an instant.

A fantastic film that respects American Indians. Jeremy Renner deserved an Oscar nomination.

This is a breathtakingly beautiful and haunting film.
The opening scene - a hunter killing a wolf that was stalking a herd - almost turned me away as it was stunning and brutal and yet clearly necessary...did I want to take all that on that particular evening? Thank goodness I stuck with it as this is one of the best films I've seen this year.
Layered, nuanced performances, no easy answers, and - perhaps most important - a slow awareness of a specific example of how cruel our nation has been - AND IS - to indigenous peoples.
Watch this. It will be something you'll think of in the days that follow. Then act.

Inspired by true events - a very strong, emotive, quality mystery murder set amidst the desolation of the Wind River Indian Reservation where only the strong survive in this stark and brutal wilderness.

Compelling drama with powerfully restrained performances from Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen and Graham Greene. Injustice, in all its many guises, is this film's main momentum and strength.

This fine film involves the death of a Native American woman and demonstrates the lack of assistance provided by non-Native law enforcement. This is especially true when the victim is a woman. Jeremy Renner plays a fish and wildlife warden who hunts predators, normally of the animal variety, for a living. Elizabeth Olsen is the fish-out-of-water FBI agent and the marvelous Graham Greene is the tribal police chief. The three of them are determined to find justice for the young woman who so bravely fought to survive. Renner's character as suffered a similar loss and we see genuine grief on his part and those of Natalie's parents. One of the most poignant moments in the film for me is when the victim's father has painted a "death face" on himself. When Renner asks him what it means, her father has to reply he does not know because there is no one left on the reservation to teach him how to grieve as an Arapaho. Excellent acting - I had never take Elizabeth Olsen seriously as an actress, but I think she did a very good job. Many painful moments, but also humorous and hopeful ones. Recommend!! You know what it's like out here in this frozen hell? Ain't there nothing to do. No nothing. Aint no women, no fun. This is fxcking snow and the fxcking silence, that's all!
-My family's people were forced here. Stuck here for a century. That's snow and silence is the only thing that hasn't been taken from them. So what did you take?

(12-7-2017: Ojai officials said it was a “miracle” that fierce Santa Ana winds had subsided on Thursday ...)
I got my truck and a high out of there and I wound up in a little mountain town called Ojai. I get there and it's like fruit farms. Vineyards. And there is this mountain surrounding it you know like protecting the town. And the people there like everybody smiles at each other. They say hello. it's like I remember thinking they were all like. I don't know. They had these looks in their eyes. Like they ran on some sort of secret like they had all figured it out. There is this mission, the Spanish mission right there in the middle of the town. They are having Christmas mass. They're celebrating Christmas. 70 degrees where you know. I just land there. pick me an orange of the tree and sat down on a bench, to listen that choir singing, eating my orange. You know that was the best Christmas I've ever had.

A Meadow in My perfect world:
Here is a meadow
in my perfect world.
Where wind dances
the branches of the tree
casting leopards spots of light
across the face of pond.
The tree stands tall
and grand and alone,
shading the world beneath it.
There will come a day
when I rest against its spine
and look out over a valley
where the sun warms,
but never burns.
I will watch leaves turn
Green, then amber, then crimson.
Then no leaves at all.
But the tree will not die.
For in this place,
winter never comes.
It is here,
in the cradle of all I hold dear,
I guard every memory of you.
And when I find myself frozen
in the mud of the real
far from your loving eyes.
I will return to this place,
close mine, and take solace in the simple
perfection of knowing you.
