With his dying breath, Carl Venable, head of the CIA task force on terrorism and Jude Brandon's final link to terrorist ringleader Max Huber, gives Brandon a mandate: to keep his daughter, Rachel, safe at any cost. But Rachel Venable has a shocking, twisted past of her own, one that comes rushing back after her medical clinic in Guyana is attacked by Huber - the same man who murdered her father and kept her imprisoned for months. Brandon and Catherine Ling, Rachel's longtime ally and fierce protector, are determined to keep Rachel out of danger, but she knows that it's impossible to stay hidden when Max Huber wants you dead. As Rachel and Brandon race against the clock to bring Huber down before he can orchestrate a nuclear explosion that will lay waste to the west coast, they also fight a growing attraction to each other - an attraction that could prove just as dangerous as Huber himself.

Reads like a harlequin romance...formulaic, predictable, adolescent.

This was a good espionage and CIA operations thriller. This is my first Iris Johansen novel and I liked how she made the lead character the daughter of the fallen CIA operative and how she helps her father's team get the terrorists before they can do anything catastrophic. Rachel, the main character, feels it's personal when the leader of the organization tries to target her. She is a strong character who does everything to stop the terrorist group. I like a lot of action throughout a book and in a movie that keeps my interest and this has it. A few pages here and there go to the terrorist's point of view to get an idea of why he and Rachel have issues with each other.

She has written better books; lots of "lip twisting"....cannot actually picture that.

Not her best work. It was okay but not one of her best books. I struggled thru it but not impressed.
