What a great conclusion to an exciting, imaginative series! Besides great characters and a fun, space operatic setting, it's very cool how well Meyer works different classic fairy tales into one intertwined story and gets them to all fit together. And even though this book is a lot longer than the previous books in the series, the pacing keeps things moving. Rocketing good stuff.

I loved this book and this series! I would highly recommend it! She takes classic stories we all know and gives them a twist, and she always keeps you on your toes. At times you think you know what is going to happen, but then something else happens! It is a good mix of friendship, romance, adventure, and real life. I wish there was one more book however.

Don't let over 800 pages intimidate you!!
It is a GOOD book!!
I recommend!!

This book took me a lot longer to finish than I anticipated. At over 800 pages, it's definitely a little more wordy than it needs to be. It should have been separated into two parts, honestly, and that would have made it easier to read and digest. It also felt repetitive in parts- someone would be captured, and then find a way to escape. The plan looked to be hopeless, and then things would move forward. It also felt like Levana could have ended things so many times, yet took a more convoluted and puzzling route that resulted in her losing. I find it hard to believe that Levana wouldn't just end up killing some of these characters out of frustration, instead of comically dragging it out.
On the plus side, the book is well written, if a little long, and the main group of characters that we've been following for three books don't disappoint. The length of the book and the time it covers allows Scarlet, Cress, Wolf, Thorne, Kai, Iko and Cinder to learn and grow into themselves and their roles in the group, and their relationships with each other. Everything is wrapped up neatly in a bow by the end, which is very satisfying. Scarlet and Wolf are still my favorites, but Cress and Thorne have definitely grown on me as well.
I can certainly see myself rereading this quartet in the future, but perhaps skimming a little on this last novel of the series.

They ask me what my favorite book in the Lunar Chronicles is, and I say, "Winter! No, Cinder! No it's Scarlet! Wait no, Cress!" It's impossible to pick a favorite, but I've heard it said that the last and first books in a series are usually the best. That just might be true in this case ;)

Also if you are interested in finding out a little more about what happens next, I recommend Stars Above at it's fun and has nine small stories that help explain things. The last one is a follow- up to Winter if anyone's interested.

800+ pages! Not sure I've read a young adult book this long before. It didn't feel long though. The book is remarkably well paced. While it's broken into a handful of "books", the "books" themselves weren't really defined entities. They felt more like an organizational device to make the book less intimidating to readers not used to such length.

I've enjoyed the whole series. While the first book would have stood alone and the second was primarily Scarlet's story with the occasional jump back to Cinder, the third and fourth books really combine the stories of all the characters introduced so far in their fight against Levana (who is basically, Snow White's evil stepmother trying to conquer Earth).

The books are chock-full of fairy tale references yet they still occasionally managed to surprise me. My favourite character was Cress (Rapunzel), but all four heroines were lovable girls strong in their own ways. (Cress starts off aiming to be a damsel in distress, but grows stronger throughout. Winter isn't traditionally strong - but her refusal to take advantage of her gift despite the mental illness she gets from this refusal definitely shows strength of character. Cinder and Scarlet are more obviously strong female leads. As in many fairy tales, the focus is on the girls moreso than their heroes.)

Highly recommend the whole series.

This novel reminds me that life's struggles instead of privilege can prepare the best leaders.

She couldn't not say it, although she realized he was right. It was sort of scary. Much scarier than it had been the first time she'd told him, out in the desert. It was different now. It was real. "I'm in love with you."
