Wow! This was my first HPR novel. There were maybe some dry, legal bits, but I loved the courtroom scenes, and the last chapter and epilogue DEFINITELY were perfect! Consider me a fan!

I liked the format....different character perspectives, plus change from past to present. Easy to keep up with. Sympathetic protagonist until the end! Very surprised by the ending.

Excellent plot and story-telling...I was kept guessing right up to the end.

(Review Not on Blog)

I didn't have this novel on my TBR list, but the cover caught my attention on the Super Loan Audiobooks page of my eLibrary. I found it difficult to like any of the characters. The heroine seemed a bit weak, and I questioned her decisions as they didn't seem consistent. Her husband, the defense attorney, rubbed me the wrong way as a controlling husband and win at all cost attitude. The latter bothered me because he would say he is for justice, but what he really stands for is winning the case through loopholes. Not that the prosecutor was any better in this book. This is the first book I think I have read where I didn't care who killed the victim, as she was unlikable but also didn't know who or what to hope for. While I like flawed characters and dark books I feel like this one missed the mark on that. The story kept me listening and I was back and forth with the ending and the whole book. I settled with 2.5 stars rounded up to three as it was an okay book, but I had few issues with it. This one is listed as a standalone, and I hope it does as I am scared to see where the characters go next lol. I would try another book by the author (this was my first novel by her).

Good until the end. It came across as convincing as the plot with the "evil twin" or "just a dream" explanation.
