It's the night of the Jellicle Ball and all these tinier-than-usual cats present themselves to Old Deuteronomy in hopes of being chosen to make the journey to the Heaviside Layer where they will be reborn, to live a new -- and hopefully better -- life. But someone is trying to eliminate the competition.

I thought the costumes were well done and certain actors played their parts well, but as an avid Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, I really didn’t like all the changes such as adding Victoria’s song or making Old Deuteronomy a woman. Many of the actors couldn’t sing well or they completely changed the notes of the songs to fit their vocal range. If you are expecting the stage version of CATS, you will probably be disappointed.

Cats is a CGI reinterpretation of the musical of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber. A setting of T.S. Elliott's book of poetry about cats, the plot is less important than the music and dance elements in this production. There were some uncanny valley moments from the CGI, and at times the score seemed to swallow the vocalist, but overall very enjoyable.

Yes, I may be piling on, but this is truly a bad movie. Main thing is how creepy the cat/people look. I saw Cats in the theater and somehow it works there because you know you are in an artificial setting with the requisite suspension of belief. Whatever the issue, I couldn't watch much because it creeped me out so much.

My wife and I tried to watch this movie and could not go past 30 minutes. Just too weird songs, acting and CGI. Over rated. There are far better movies out there.

I'm not the biggest fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and I went into this one with very low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. This isn't a masterpiece, but it is CATS. If you are familiar with the stage musical, you know what you're in for. It moves along at a good pace, offers some variety in its songs, and gets committed performances out of its cast (especially, in this case, Ian McKellen). Do the sizes of the cats vary wildly from scene to scene? Yes. Is the digital fur distracting? Yes. But if you can lean into the weirdness of it all, you might have a good time, like I did.

Good for a laugh but otherwise a poorly told story and forgettable film.
