This album reflects Depeche Mode as pioneers in electronic music. The music instrument technology and their skills as electronic music artists is very primary. The music has a tin pan sound and the beats are simplistic. The lyrics are something a confused teenage boy would write if he were trying to understand why he was falling in love with someone. I have a sentimental soft spot for this album. DM's albums after this one are way better because of the advancement of music technology and their skills as musicians and electronic artists.

Depeche Mode's second album (1982) is their weakest of the 80s. Synth pop savant Vince Clark had left the band (he would go on to Yaz and Erasure) and they were down to a trio. This album is transitional, finding them trapped between the glittering synth pop of the first album and their later arena goth sound. For fans only. Includes a bonus disc and new liner notes.
