Old Yeller comes to Travis's family as a stray. At first Travis detests him. With his father far away on a cattle drive, Old Yeller helps Travis take care of his family and Travis grows fond of him. This is a heartwarming tale of family and loyalty.
They called him Old Yeller because of his dingy yellow coat. Travis couldn't stand the look of Old Yeller. He thought the dog was ugly and he didn't like the fact that the dog stole their food.
