The Lenclos are a husband-wife design team who have traveled the world with an extraordinary goal: to document the particular palette of various regions as it is shaped by light, terrain, and soil composition and expressed in building materials and construction as well as culture and customs. After discussion of their theory and methods as they've developed over several decades, color photos on every page document studies of sites in France, the US, Guatemala, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Iran, Yemen, India, and Japan. Readership will be broad, including designers and artists of all types, architects, and anthropologists. The book was originally published in French in 1999, by Groupe Moniteur, Paris. Ignore all the colour charts, and it is a very interesting book. Worldwide housing is represented. It makes one think twice about the size of homes we think we need to have.
