One of my all-time favorites and arguably the best spy intrigue movie is Three Days of the Condor. Directed by the incomparable Sydney Pollack, based on the James Grady novel, the movie highlights the dysfunction in government bureaucracy and features Big Oil as a central theme, shockingly relevant four decades later. Pollack also manages to tap and weave the Cold War angst prevalent at the time into the plot. Redford shines as the man "out in the cold", and an all-star cast including Faye Dunaway and Max von Sydow makes this flick a masterpiece in my book.

I loved it from start to finish. It moves fast, is very gripping, and it's never boring. It really opened up my awareness of the world around me in the 70's. Besides, it's got Max Von Sydow, and he never disappoints me.

Based on a spy thriller, directed by Sydney Pollack, starring Faye Dunaway (Golden Globe nom) , Robert Redford, Max Von Sydow, Cliff Robertson, and John Houseman - with all these assets, it would have to be a royal screw-up to be bad. It moves a little fast, so just assume the Redford character has a good mind and catches on quickly to figure out most things better than the audience and you will have a good time. Faye Dunaway is great as always playing the vulnerable lady at times and intelligent and good at other times.

A very nice and concisely scripted movie [Lorenzo Semple, Jr. and David Rayfiel], as topical today as it was back then. Dunaway and Redford played off quite nicely against each other, and the whiney Robertson was perfect as the spook! With an ending as clever then as it is today!

A paranoid conspiracy thriller from the 1970's starring Robert Redford. After the Watergate scandal which caused Richard Nixon to resign from office for wiretapping and illegal break-ins, Hollywood produced a slew of these movies to reflect the feelings of distrust many felt about the government and it's various shadowy intelligence agencies. This is a solid film from that genre, and Redford & Dunaway are both very good.

Not my favorite Redford or Pollack film. Way too much cheesy music to make the plot feel serious. Von Sydow was wonderful as usual and the premise was certainly relevant even now. But the romance was under ridiculous circumstances. I'd recommend The Electric Horseman for a good Redford/Pollack romance film.

One of the great paranoid thrillers of the 70s with great performances by Redford, Dunaway, Max Von Sydow, and Cliff Robertson. The new "Captain America" referenced this film, but you can also detect its influence in the "Bourne" series and "Syriana." I think this is the best of the films Redford and director Sydney Pollack did together. Also check out "The Conversation," "All the President's Men," "Klute," and "The Parallax View."

- Do you trust him?
- Trust .. Does he trust you? ...He's in the suspicion business...He can't trust anybody.

- How could anybody fool them?
- Maybe nobody did.

- Then
- Maybe there's another CIA...inside the CIA.

Higgins: It's simple economics. Today it's oil, right? In ten or fifteen years, food. Plutonium. Maybe even sooner. Now, what do you think the people are gonna want us to do then?

Joe Turner: Ask them?

Higgins: Not now - then! Ask 'em when they're running out. Ask 'em when there's no heat in their homes and they're cold. Ask 'em when their engines stop. Ask 'em when people who have never known hunger start going hungry. You wanna know something? They won't want us to ask 'em. They'll just want us to get it for 'em!
...
Joe Turner: Boy, what is it with you people? You think not getting caught in a lie is the same thing as telling the truth?
