At first, I didn't think I would be able to finish the book. There were many disturbing stories of animal abuse. But I persevered & it was worth it. There was lots of useful information & many heart-warming stories too. Newkirk also does a fantastic job of teaching you how to see the world from an animal's perspective, which is very eye-opening. And I learned many things that I'd never known, despite being an animal welfare advocate & activist for many years.

I would LOVE to make someone who *doesn't* think that animal abuse & medical testing on animals is such a big deal sit down & read this book. It would probably open their eyes quite a bit.

It didn't really empower me to take extra steps, as I was hoping it would. We need people to talk this issue up with friends and family, and to lobby politicians for improvement (especially federal legislation). In Canada, check out CETFA, WSPA Canada, and CFHS.

Lots of good ideas for promoting animal welfare, but alot of the stories in this book are reused in her new one as well. I was dissapointed.
