Ramón Sampedro wants to end his life because a diving accident 28 years before that turned him into a quadriplegic. For most of those years he made the most of it: writing, developing a close relationships with his family, who all help to care for him. While grateful to his family and friends for their help, Ramón was always an active person. He has come to see his life as frustrating and pointless and wishes to die with what remains of his dignity. Gené is a friend who works with a "Right to Die" organization who introduces Ramón to Julia, a lawyer he hopes will help him persuade the courts to let him end his own life. As Ramón and Julia work together on his case, Ramón finds himself falling in love with his attorney, but Ramón remains convinced that the greatest gift to him would be an end to his life.

Enigmatic movie about life/death - and choice.

Despite theme, not depressing, The flying scenes are particularly enjoyable.

This is an excellent movie. For the subject matter it isn’t a depressing movie and it’s done very well. Way better than the diving bell and the butterfly. Worth the watch.

Beautiful movie. I've watched it over and over. The scene where he leaves through the window is breathtaking, I had to purchase the soundtrack because of that scene. The music will give you chills.

Basada en una historia real, “Mar Adentro” es un argumento racional, sincero y sumamente personal a favor de la eutanasia. Creo que es una película importante, la cual todo el mundo debería ver.

Five stars justly deserved. Based on a true story 'the SEA INSIDE' delivers the best cinema you are likely to see. Life, it is said, flashes past you as you face drowning at 20 years of age. If Ramon's next 28 years are spent as a quadraplegic, how can he face this quasi life without feeling? Watch "mar ADENTO" and be swept away.
Is it sad? No, not at all.

This is an amazing, inspiring story. So well acted with compassion and tenderness. Javier Bardem's performance is powerful and understated. The love for his character from his family, and everyone who helps him in his quest to die is so well expressed. This film won an academy award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2004. In Spanish with subtitles.
