So, here’s the thing: Loretta Chase is brilliant. She is such a talented writer – she’s one of those authors whose books I always think you could hand to a non-romance reader and, even if it still wasn’t their thing (which is fine! Thrillers, for example, aren’t my thing! Not everybody has to like the same stuff!), they would at least be able to appreciate how well-written it was. Her books are so clever – I find that I read them at a somewhat slower pace than I normally read a romance novel, because otherwise I miss some of the jokes – and the dialogue just sparkles, it’s so sharp and funny. However. I do not love her non-UK set books as much as her ones in Merry Olde England. She’s a very plot-centric romance author – which is fine! – and a lot of her books have a healthy dose of adventure to them, as this one certainly does, but her ones set in foreign lands tend to occasionally get a bit convoluted, plot-wise, for my taste. The romance in this book was A+ – the hero and heroine were PERFECT for each other – but my lone complaint is that I wish something about the course of the plot had been just a bit... different. (I do love the IDEA of an Egyptian archaeology Regency, though, make no mistake.)
