Completely agree with uncommonreader. Not only is it clear in the language of the book, but also from the critics who enjoy this book. "Auca" is what the evangelicals called the Waorani, which means "savage" in Kichwa. The Saints, the SIL and they're Operation Auca are the forces that fight against making things right.

The author's paternalistic perspective is that of the superior westerner believing in the "White Man's Burden". Awful.

Imagine growing up in the 50's in the jungle of Ecuador with a native tribe who murdered your father. Saint experienced just that, and even returned to Ecuador with his family years later to gain a new perspective on the event. Became a motion picture in 2006.
