Before Casimir Pulaski arrived on America's shore, the count and his family had organized a rebel army of about 4,000 men to liberate Poland from Russia. Pulaski later offered his services as a soldier and horseman to the Continental army. George Washington wisely accepted this offer, and Pulaski trained the first American cavalry.
