Wilson (zoology emeritus, Harvard U.) combines his skills as biologist, writer and philosopher to good purpose, instructing several generations and picking up a couple of Pulitzers along the way. His interests ranges widely, and here we have landmark pieces in sociobiology, biodiversity, evolutionary biology, ecology and behavioral biology. The 61 articles here range from the purely academic to the carefully accessible, and they are all published in facsimile form. Wilson's general topics
include sociobiology as explained by ants, biodiversity studies, systems and biogeography, and conservation and the human condition, including some fascinating work on the conservation of life and applied biogeography. Annotation 2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
