of Muslim scholars, and their influence on the science, geography, mathematics, philosophy, and medicine of later civilizations.
Few biographies of al-Biruni exist in English, and this is the first for young adults. Al-Biruni studies medicine, physics, philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy, and possessed a profoundly stunning intellect. He helped develop mathematics, from trigonometry to calculus, mapped cities and the distances between them, and inspired others in the virtuous pursuit of knowledge. Al-Biruni was a genius though it must be said that the discoveries he made was in the interest of his religious belief, not scientific discovery. The book was otherwise well written for the younger audience though I wonder who bankrolled the series.
