Molecular biology is the study of life at the cellular level. While this complex topic can be confusing, knowledge of molecular biology is crucial to understanding medical science and many other important disciplines. With its unique Japanese comic style, The Manga Guide to Molecular Biology is a gentle and fun cartoon guide to this vast topic. After sleeping their way through Molecular Biology 101, Ami and Rin are forced to take make-up classes. With the help of Dr. Moro and his virtual reality machine, they travel inside cells, meeting cell organelles, nuclei, and genes and chromosomes face-to-face. They examine proteins and amino acids, watch DNA replicate and cells divide, and meet exciting characters like Enzyme Man. Once the girls learn the fundamentals of genetics, they learn about recombinant technology, cloning, and the role of molecular biology in fighting diseases

Rin and Ami have been skipping molecular biology class all semester, and Professor Moro has had enough—he's sentencing them to summer school on his private island. But they're in store for a special lesson. Using Dr. Moro's virtual reality machine to travel inside the human body, they'll get a close-up look at the fascinating world of molecular biology.

Join them in The Manga Guide to Molecular Biology, and learn all about DNA, RNA, proteins, amino acids, and more. Along the way, you'll see chemical reactions first-hand and meet entertaining characters like Enzyme Man and Drinkzilla, who show how the liver metabolizes alcohol.

Together with Ami and Rin, you'll learn all about:
–The organelles and proteins inside cells, and how they support cellular functions
–The processes of transcription and translation, and your genes' role in synthesizing proteins
–The pieces that make up our genetic code, like nucleotides, codons, introns, and exons
–The processes of DNA replication, mitosis and cytokinesis
–Genetic technology like transduction and cloning, and the role of molecular biology in medicine

Whether you need a molecular biology refresher or you're just fascinated by the science of life, The Manga Guide to Molecular Biology will give you a uniquely fun and informative introduction.

Interesting, although the comic form may not be for me on this subject.

This book is really easy to understand!

The illustrations and storyline attract students, and the information about cells is more in-depth than would perhaps be expected from an illustrated book. Thumbs up! Very well done book. Textbooks do not have to be boring, and this author demonstrates that. The review suggests a targeted age of high-school students, but this book can be used by students younger than that, and is solid enough for older students as well. If you're new to cell biology or need a review, no matter what your age, try this book.

The story is about two girls who have tp take a make up class in a virtual world for not having done good at a molecular biology class at a university with the help of a proffesor's assistant. In the end though they find out that they were learning this because their proffesor has a currently incurable condition and he's hoping that they will become knowledgabl enough one day to cure him. This book is nicely detailed and the last chapter actualy has some fairly up to date stuff about devolpments in biotechnology.
