If you liked Hatchet, this book will tell you how the author got all the ideas for that book, and how many wild experiences he has had in his life.

Agreed with previous comment. I came to this read because I wanted to know more about the author of Hatchet, Brian's Return, The River. At first it was a little hard to imagine his upbringing, but as an 'mature' adult I grew to understand this author's life. My Life in Dogs or title nearly as - was rewarding, made me laugh, cry & wish for such companions.

Guess what mammal kills the most people in North America most years? Did you guess deer? Each chapter of GUTS tells a story from Gary Paulsen's wild and sometimes crazy dangerous life of adventure. Most people understand the need to respect, say, bears, but deer? Mosquitoes? The story about deer you'll have to read to believe (it's pretty sad), but I think the scariest one was the mosquitoes. This is a short, fast, un-put-downable adventure book--and just as amazing--every story is true.
