This one is, for me one of the best dear america books I've read, and I read close to all of them. Its got mystery, its got fun, its action and its got a love story, that I actually like, because most love story's in books are annoying to me. If you dont mind that the story line can get a tiny bit jumbled, its a winner.

Angeline Reddy's beloved Papa has been killed by a knife stab to the back in the 1880 gold-mining town of Bodie, California. As Angie and her mother struggle with the death, other events in this wild frontier impact their lives. Using the gothic-like language of the 19th century, Angie and her friend Ling Loi Wing solve a mystery, witness an armed standoff, and see an unmasking, an election, and heroism. The author weaves historical facts about Bodie with fictional characters to create a vivid portrait of characters often used viewed as stereotypes -- soiled doves, respectable women, law enforcement, robbers, miners, and Chinese laborers. Period photographs of Bodie round out this fast-moving novel.

Didn't like this book much. It had good potential with the story line but the author had so much going on and was hard to follow. Definitely wasn't the best dear America book I've read.

I consider this book one of my favorites of the 43 book Dear America series. I love the excitement and mystery. I highly recommend this book! This book does ramble on some parts, but do not people ramble in their own diaries? I know I do.

95% of the book is rambling, and hardly and fun. Too confusing. DONT waste your time reading this
