The Running dream is both an excellent motivational sports story and a "be better" growing up tale, both of which we've had plenty of but Van Draanen shows that in capable hands they can really turn the pages. I was surprisingly in to the insurance drama.

I definitely recommend the audio, as I can see how the writing style might not have the same impact in text. A meaningful story that's well worth the pick-up.

This story of a high school track star coping with leg amputation includes a nice mix of teenage angst and lighthearted moments that ultimately make for a feel-good story. With a topic like this, various emotional and psychological aspects could have been given more depth and further explored, but Wendelin Van Draanen does a nice job of streamlining to keep the story moving, and Laura Flanagan is a supremely engaging reader who fully embodies these characters in her narration.
