My favorite biblical film >> beautifully made and acted ~ Jesus is love 420
This is a wonderful film. It is especially nice to view this film at Easter time!
This is a 1961 American biblical epic directed by Nicholas Ray.
It is a dramatization of the story of Jesus Christ from his birth to his crucifixion and resurrection.
The film features scenes of Jesus' miracles and his Sermon on the Mount with 7,000 extras.
Althou it is a well-known story, you definitely need a willing suspension of disbelief when you see the miracles.
What a wonderful flick!
I love DeMille's vision of this and the Criterion treatment is fantastic. There are two versions; the longer 2 hr 36 min and a 112 minute one plus outake footage. The two red/green scenes are beautiful and the music score is loving. Over-the-top as usual in places for DeMille, but he put his all in this and 85 years later it still looks magnificent. The character silent-film acting is well done and not cartoonish. The crucifiction is classic and chilling all the way to the earth rendering itself and Judas' hanging. I saw this late-night on TV 40+ years ago with a unrestored copy and it haunted me to this day. This restored Criterion version just adds so much more to it.
