A good novel for fans of the Transformers universe. The so-called 'official history' tried to tie together elements of the various incarnations of the Transformers franchise and succeeds to an extent. Given the conflicts of elements in various 'histories' so far, this is not an easy task. The histories of the two core characters, Optimus Prime and Megatron, are well-depicted. I found the pace a little uneven in that the events leading to the war were in great detail but the war itself and the introduction of supporting characters (Bumblebee and Ultra Magnus for example) were given a fleeting mention. Sentinel Prime's role in the story is somewhat an awkward fit. The book is a fast read, nonetheless, and I would recommend this to the beginning fan and casual fan alike. Hard-core fans may find the story a little frustrating, depending on which history of the TF franchise they follow.
