this concert plays pretty regularly at your local pbs tv station's fund drives. it shows an artist in command of his oovra; quietly in charge of the show, in short, roy was the real deal, from the generation of American pop artists prevalent before the British Invasion. and what a stellar backup crew he assembles here! k.d.laing, bonnie raitt, elvis Costello, bruce springsteen, tom waits, Jackson browne,j.d.souther, and more. they are all quietly courteous of each other, too, which is nice, as it is when yer in a library. this, however, was a rock and pop concert. I'm glad little Richard, chuck berry, and the killer didn't show up, 'cause they're too raucous. during mean woman blues, roy does his patented cat growl, which brought a smile to his lips. the girls in the front rows liked that, too. or, maybe it was something else: they sat beneath the musicians, and roy was center front. girls can be gross, too, you know. as well as shallow and perverse, and are not beneath 'sleeping their way to the top', either!
