This was a really enjoyable novel, but I felt like it was the weakest in the Elysium Cycle. Whereas the Children Star leaves off with the promise of exciting and dynamic relationships between micros and humans, Brain Plague sees that relationship stagnate and instead focuses on the relationship of an individual to her micros. It's well done and fascinating, with lots of moral ambiguity one would expect from the series, but the perspectives we see feel rather limited when compared to some of the earlier stories (especially Daughter of Elysium).
