This is a decent read. It's the kind of thing that inspires/justifies a mid-life crisis, as the reader hears all about the two-year sailing trip that a professional, workaholic couple from Toronto take to the Caribbean. Unlike most travelogues, though, the narrator is neither particularly wise nor very charming - so unlike something by, say, Michael Palin or Ernest Hemingway, we have to hear about the wondrous azure seas and the shining white beaches through the voice of a shrewish, chronically worried little sack of troubles named Ann Vanderhoof. This makes the narrative kind of funny, but only unintentionally, as a petty and timid character investigates a realm that is far more interesting, dangerous, and beautiful than she is. All in all, I'd recommend it but with a huge caveat: you may find yourself irritated by this author!
