There is so much to see and do in Gambela! For a young girl living along the Openo (Baro) river in Gambela, Ethiopia, there is plenty to watch, listen and learn. Her day begins with her older brothers, fishing along the Jabjabe River, then transitions to her home, where she learns to grill the fish and stew their homegrown veggies. Next is playing house, where she can practice the skills her mother taught her, and then a trip to the market with even more interesting sights and sounds! After that is coffee time, jewelry making time, learning to make corn flour, helping out with younger siblings, spending time with family sharing stories and looking at the stars. All day long, she has been learning about her culture, her people, her history, her family, and herself. All day long she watches, listens, and learns important lessons that she will never forget. Someday, perhaps she will teach what she knows to her own children, and carry on her family legacy of love and learning.
