Audio publishers always make the mistake of requiring the narrators to read every single word even when it is an email with lots of repetitive bits like "re" in the subject line. These two girls are sending the same email thread back and forth so by the end of the first hour the narrators repeating "re, re, re, re, re, re..." is absurd. I can't imagine what it will be like by the 6th hour. A one line email can mean you have to listen to the recitation of "re" several times in a few minutes. Don't they understand that as readers we skip over that kind of repetitive minutiae as a matter of course when it is written? The narrators are wonderful, the story is engaging but I can't recommend the audio version because of the maddening and frequent "re" recitation. AAAAARGH!Audio publishers always make the mistake of requiring the narrators to read every single word even when it is an email with lots of repetitive bits like "re" in the subject line. This book was up for the Sasquatch Award when it first came out and the kids loved it. It's well written with lots of suspense and a uniquely creepy story line. I'm not sure what the comments about repetition and poor writing were about but that wasn't my experience with this book. This is a fun story about nicknames gone wrong. It's a great one to share when starting out the school year with pre-K - 1st grade when you're talking about names. I love the bright artwork full of diversity and silliness.

Yes, this is a short book but it's funny and one of my favorite quick reads for struggling readers. The brothers in this book are a hot mess of crazy fun. The librarian is terrifyingly funny. The length of a book doesn't make it good or bad.
